Peter Giba Hand Carved Wood Folk Art BOURBON CHIEF Horse Sculpture or Figurine. This is a gorgeous vintage hand carved wood folk art horse made by Peter Giba and titled Bourbon Chief. Giba had a basement studio in Chicago and was discovered by M. B Mervis, a copper and steel executive. Mervis did a world wide search for lifelike horse carvings and Giba, who was one of 3 that he found, carved approximately 400 horses for his collection.
We believe it has since be deaccessioned. This piece is ca the 1930's-40's. The horse is 11 1/4" high including the base and the base is 10 3/8" by 4. The carving is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or losses. The felt on the bottom of the base shows significant wear but can be easily replaced. It is marked on the side of the base, Bourbon Chief and on the other side P B Giba. It also has small paper label on the side with BIXX and some numbers which could be a label from the museum. See the other Giba horse we have listed.
