This is an antique vertebrae section from a horse or cow. It has been hand painted to look like the priest John Wesley. The paintwork on the face is very finely done. Primitive folk art and very collectable these days.
Made about 1750-80 to make fun of preacher John Wesley and his new Methodist church idea. No maker's marks etc. It is in collectable condition with normal signs of age and use wear. The paintwork is dirty and chipped in places, mostly on the very edges and corners where the bone is visible. Please see pictures for more details.5 inches tall, 5 inches wide and 4 inches in depth.
